Arm-Synopsys Partnership Accelerates Chip Innovation
On November 1, 2023, Synopsys, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNPS), a prominent leader in electronic design automation (EDA) solutions, made a significant announcement regarding its expanded collaboration with Arm. This collaboration focuses on providing enhanced intellectual property (IP) and Electronic Design Automation (EDA) solutions tailored to the latest Arm® technologies, including the Arm Neoverse™ V2 platform and Arm Neoverse Compute Subsystem (CSS). The goal is to accelerate the development of specialized chips and facilitate faster time-to-market for various applications within the electronics industry.
Synopsys has recently become a key participant in the "Arm Total Design" ecosystem. This strategic move enables Synopsys to harness its global expertise and leverage its innovative Synopsys.ai™ AI-driven EDA comprehensive solutions, as well as its IP offerings in interfaces, security, and chip lifecycle management. The primary objective is to empower mutual customers to expedite the development of custom chips based on Arm CSS solutions.
Building on a remarkable history of more than three decades of collaboration, Synopsys and Arm are deepening their cooperation to assist mutual customers in achieving accelerated chip development. This collaboration aims to reduce development costs, mitigate risks, and facilitate quicker market entry for new electronic components.
Mohamed Awad, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Infrastructure Business Unit at Arm, emphasized, "Through the 'Arm Total Design' ecosystem, our vision is to drive rapid innovation within the Arm Neoverse CSS system and apply crucial ecosystem expertise across all stages of System-on-Chip (SoC) development. Our robust technical partnership with Synopsys, focused on delivering pre-integrated and verified IP and EDA tools, will empower mutual customers to harness cutting-edge computing capabilities and address the industry's most intricate computing challenges."
Shankar Krishnamoorthy, General Manager of Synopsys' EDA Division, pointed out, "Synopsys.ai's AI-driven EDA comprehensive solutions, leading IP solutions, virtual prototyping design, and hardware-assisted verification are all well-suited for Arm architecture systems. By joining the 'Arm Total Design' ecosystem, we are reinforcing our collaboration with Arm, thereby equipping mutual customers to tackle complex design challenges effectively. Through extensive collaborative optimization efforts with Arm, we are continuously advancing performance and efficiency in the development of advanced nodes and multi-chip system designs in this new era."
In addition to becoming part of the "Arm Total Design" ecosystem, Synopsys has renewed its agreement with Arm to optimize the interoperability, performance, and system bandwidth of systems incorporating Arm processors and Synopsys IP in areas such as interfaces, security, and chip lifecycle management. This renewal ensures that detailed performance analysis of IP and processor interoperability is available before chip fabrication, thereby reducing design risks. Furthermore, it guarantees seamless collaboration between all Arm processors and subsystems with Synopsys IP.
Customers adopting Synopsys.ai's AI-driven EDA solutions can significantly enhance their productivity throughout the entire spectrum of system architecture, design, and manufacturing processes through the power of AI. Additionally, when applying this technology to Arm Neoverse V2 core development, mutual customers can harness AI to expedite tasks such as design space exploration, verification coverage, regression analysis, and test program generation, thus accelerating chip development.
Synopsys' Fusion Quick Start Design Implementation Kit (QIK) caters to a range of Arm processor series, including Arm Neoverse V2, Arm Cortex®, Arm Immortalis™, and Arm Mali™. It provides optimized starting points for customers' chip development by offering implementation scripts and reference guides. When combined with Synopsys' Fusion Compiler and Synopsys DSO.ai™ tools, QIK significantly enhances efficiency, enabling customers to achieve superior design results more quickly.
Synopsys' verification product line delivers a complete workflow for Arm Neoverse V2 validation and software development. Customers can utilize Synopsys' architectural design solutions integrated with Arm CMN interconnect performance models, virtual prototype design with Arm Fast models, hardware-assisted verification, and verification IP. This allows for early initiation of software development, faster software and hardware debugging, and the advancement of performance and power verification schedules. Synopsys' integrated solutions simplify the development cycle of the Arm Neoverse V2 platform, expediting the entry of System-on-Chip (SoC) and multi-die chip systems into the market.
