STMicroelectronics Auto Power IC: Streamlined Vehicle Control
STMicroelectronics is proud to introduce the SPSB081 Automotive-Grade Power Management IC, a cutting-edge solution designed to revolutionize the field of automotive power management. This multi-functional device, often likened to the Swiss Army Knife of automotive power management chips, integrates a host of essential features into a single compact package.
The SPSB081 series is equipped with a fixed voltage primary Low-Dropout Regulator (LDO), a configurable secondary LDO regulator, four high-side drivers, a CAN FD transceiver, and an optional LIN transceiver—all seamlessly integrated on a single chip. This innovative product range offers a range of low static power standby modes and configurable wake-up functions, ensuring a substantial reduction in overall power consumption for vehicle systems.
The chip's integrated power and transceiver functions are poised to simplify the design of vehicle body controllers, making it an ideal choice for various automotive applications, including sunroofs, seating systems, tailgates, door controls, and lighting modules. Moreover, the SPSB081 series is versatile enough to extend its applicability to gateways, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) controllers, keyless entry systems, remote information processing control units, and control panels.
Within the SPSB081 series, the SPSB081C3 and SPSB081C5 variants feature fixed voltage LDO regulators at 3.3V and 5V, respectively, accompanied by a CAN transceiver. Furthermore, the SPSB0813 and SPSB0815 models come equipped with an LIN transceiver. All products within this series incorporate a secondary LDO regulator, configurable independently to either 3.3V or 5V through the on-chip SPI port or capable of tracking the voltage of the primary LDO regulator. The inclusion of four high-side drivers, with a maximum pull current of 140mA, offers the capability to drive LEDs and sensors while providing current monitoring and 10-bit PWM timers for each channel.
This groundbreaking series includes an array of safety protection features and diagnostic output pins essential for fault-tolerant signal systems. These features are designed to meet ISO 26262 functional safety requirements, ensuring a secure and reliable automotive system. Overcurrent protection, open-load fault indication, overvoltage protection, thermal protection, overload protection, short-circuit protection, and reverse-bias protection are integrated into the product, enhancing its safety and reliability. Both regulators are equipped with startup ground short-circuit monitoring and continuous regulator fault monitoring functions.
The SPSB081 series complies with the AEC-Q100 automotive electronic standard, operating effectively within a wide temperature range, from -40°C to 150°C, with the capacity to handle even higher temperatures up to 175°C. All products within this series are now in mass production and are presented in a compact 5mm x 5mm x 1mm QFN32L package, optimized for enhanced thermal performance and accessibility.
STMicroelectronics remains committed to advancing automotive electronic solutions, and the SPSB081 series is another testament to its dedication to innovation and excellence in the field.
